A developer has been chosen to build Newark's tallest building, but the Goldman Sachs tower in Jersey City (right) will still be easily the state's tallest. The Goldman Sachs tower on the Jersey City waterfront has 42 floors. A Philadelphia developer has been picked to build in Newark a high-rise of 44 stories, the Star-Ledger reports. Goldman Sachs will retain the mantle of New Jersey's tallest building with 780 feet because the $190 million tower of 300 apartments, restaurants and shops in Newark will reach only 482 feet, 2 inches into the sky. Each of the floors of the Jersey City high-tech building is taller than the average floor of most high-rises.
The Newark building will be constructed on the New Jersey Performing Arts Center campus.
It is expected to have an impact on that city if new residents in the tower can provide a sense of community in a section of Newark that empties after offices close at 5 p.m.
